As you would be aware, the MGSMAA provides services focussed on MGSM graduates whereas the Macquarie Business School provide services to a broader range of alumni of MQBS, including MGSM alumni. The MGSMAA’s independence enables us to pursue our advocacy goals on behalf of MGSM graduates without fear or favour - but we are always happy to support services provided by the MQBS which are valuable for MGSM graduates. Similarly, the MQBS promotes our exclusive MGSM events to their database of MGSM alumni.
Ramya Acharya, Head of Alumni at the Macquarie Business School, has asked the MGSMAA to provide around 10 facilitators to support her Virtual Speed Dating event for their Lift Speed Mentoring program. This event is for all graduates of MQBS – so there will be a mix of MBA and other graduates. Currently around half the booked attendees are MBA graduates.
At this virtual event on Tuesday18th August at 6.30 pm, following some introductory speakers, the 100 or so participants will be divided up into around 10 breakout groups of 8 -10 per group, with each group having one mentor and one facilitator. The facilitator’s role is simply to help the mentor interact with the participants, armed with back up questions to get the discussion going. The breakout session will only last for 10-12 minutes, so I believe that any experienced manager with good people skills should find this facilitation task an easy, fun and rewarding experience. There is no ongoing commitment, unless you specifically request to join the program as a mentor.
If you are an MGSMAA Foundation Member and have the time to participate and help support alumni in this way, please respond by email to Ramya Acharya on business_alumni@mq.edu.au, copying me in on rebeccamurray@mgsmaa.com.
I will be one of the facilitators on the night and look forward to your support of this alumni mentoring program.
